Ayurveda - The oldest & richest companion of hair care

Hair has been an attractive feature of beauty, often forming a significant part of an individual’s overall personality. It’s not a new buzz word in the beauty industry. This practice of pampering and hair care dates back to ancient times. In Ayurveda, our traditional system of medicine, hair is called ‘Kesh’ and herbs which are beneficial for hair are described as ‘Keshya’.

Here’s a list of ayurvedic ingredients that must make it to your hair care regime -

Almond (Prunus amygdalus) – Sweet almond oil provides nourishment to your hair and also helps them with strength. It is known to soften and moisturize dry hair.

Amla (Emblica Officinalis) –Also known as Indian gooseberry, amla is one of the most extensively used ingredients in Ayurvedic preparations. It strengthens your hair and promotes hair growth. Additionally, it also helps retain the natural colour of your hair.

Onion (Allium cepa) – It is a saviour when it comes to treating hair loss.

Henna (Lawsonia inermis) – Henna leaves are rich in lawsone and have been used to colour grey hair, since ancient times.

Shikakai (Acacia concinna) – Absolute classic! Shikakai has been traditionally used for washing hair. Not just that, it is also known for enabling hair growth.

Kalonji (Nigella sativa) – Also known as Black cumin or black seed, Kalonji oil is another good antioxidant that helps to prevent hair damage and hair loss.

Hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-Sinensis) – Commonly known as Japa Pushpa or gurhal, flowers and leaves of this plant are traditionally known to have hair growth-promoting and anti greying properties.

Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri) – Brahmi has been used in the traditional system of medicine since centuries. That is another ingredient with the forte of promoting hair growth.
